Diogo Vilhena was born in 1985. Born in Vila Nova de Milfontes, on the Alentejo coast.
In 2008, he completed his degree in Sound and Image, Specialization in Image. at ESAD (IPL campus). Still as a student, he co-directed the short documentary ‘Cinema com Gente Dentro’, about what remains of itinerant cinema in Portugal. The film received several awards and was shown at Fantasporto 2010.
In Sines, he performs television ads for FMM – Festival Musicas do Mundo, an international reference festival of World Music, where he is also responsible for the videos of the event and promotion, national and international. He has been involved in many other projects, mainly devoted to heritage. Some of these works were made for the Leiria Museum, distinguished in 2017 with the Silletto Prize – European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA), and in co-productions such as Tresminas Roman Gold Mining Complex, which has already received several awards for the best documentary Arkeolan and El Viriato de Oro. He made his first feature film in 2015, the documentary ‘Mar de Sines’, distinguished for best film and ethnographic by the International Ethnographic Film Festival of Recife (Brazil) and more than a dozen official selections between film festivals and international conferences.
